Tour Island 4x4 Desert Viana Boa Vista
SERVICE DESCRIPTION
On this tour we will discover the true Cape Verdean culture and traditions by visiting the characteristic villages of the Norte area (the eastern part of the island). Before arriving there, we make a short stop to see one of the few traditional art forms of the island, the ceramics and pottery that have been produced for a very long time in the ancient Olaria of Rabil, the second largest city and former capital of the island. After this stop, we head straight east, following the old Portuguese calzade, or traditional hand-laid porphyry roads. The first town we come to is Joao Gallego, where we stop for a very short break to visit the newly renovated square. After a very short stretch of road, we arrive at the most typical villages in pure Cape Verdean style: Fundo das Figueiras, which is said to be an old fishing village that, according to tradition, was built inland to protect itself from pirate landings and raids, which were frequent during the war between Spain, England, France and Portugal. The tour is free, so everyone can take photos of the colourful, flower-filled one-storey houses in the Cape Verdean tradition. This is the kingdom of bougainvillea and hibiscus, which are in bloom all year round. During the tour, you will be taken to the local church, one of the few perfectly preserved examples of local religious art and one of the oldest churches on the island. We leave via the Calzada de Santinha, an ancient road that connects Norte with the town of Bofareira, located on the northeastern tip of the island. From Bofareira we head to one of the most magical places on the island: the Viana Desert! Here you will find incredible shifting dunes of incredibly cool sand, transported by the wind that has been blowing from the north-east for thousands of years. The silence, broken only by the sound of the wind, deserves to be respected, giving everyone the chance to absorb the intense beauty and energy of this unique place. This is how the tour ends, with this magical vision... the pickup takes us back to Sal Rei, the capital from where the journey began.
